The Dark Side of Snow....

Nampa had about 3-4 inches of snow today, Ontario was around 5-6 inches about 6pm. We've had just one crazy and sad snow experience after another in the last 24 hours.

Yesterday, we lost power around 3:30pm....Only to find out around 5:30pm (still no power) that we were one of 7500 homes across Nampa to be powerless! Idaho Power co. had "no idea" why. Great.

It was getting chilly inside and with no power, we couldn't make dinner or even call for a pizza (we tried!) so we decided to bundle up the girls and drive to Ontario for the night. So, we played games with the fam and the girls loved the festive feel.

Today, Andy & I went out for lunch in Ontario. We were just pulling out of the bank parking lot when out of the corner of my eye I saw someone lying in the snow on the sidewalk across the street! I started to yell "Andy!" but he was already throwing the pickup into park and running over there. It was an 82 year old man who had fallen and hit his head. He was bleeding pretty bad from the back of his head and had been knocked out. Andy got the bleeding to slow and helped him to his car while we called 911. He desperately didn't want us to call but his little wife said he had a blood condition and to please call. We stayed until the ambulance loaded him up, said he was going to be ok but his pulse was incredibly low. He didn't know how long he'd been laying in the snow. I was so impressed with how clearly and fast Andy worked. The older gentleman was so thankful, kept calling him "Dan". : )

Then.....(Yes, there's more) We decided to leave for home with a little light of day left and we drove slow. Half way home, we noticed the car in front of us start to swerve as she tried to pass a semi, suddenly the SUV was spinning circles and went spinning off the road, crashing into the ditch. Andy managed to avoid colliding with her and we stayed with the young lady till the police arrived. She wasn't hurt but scared out of her wits, she'd been driving from Yakima, WA and was going home to Boise. Poor thing, she was almost there.

So...Our plans for tomorrow?! Coffee, staying in our sweatpants and probably watching a few movies....We're done being out and about for now. Ok ok, we may take the girls sledding. : )

Be safe everyone!!

Oh MY! I guess the snow can be treacherous. Oh I feel bad for that man (and the girl) but I'm glad you guys were there to help in both circumstances! Must have been divine appointment. Was the man's wife there with him when he was laying there or did you guys find him first? Scary.

The roads are sheeted glass today....very slick. Actually the elderly gentleman was all alone, we called his wife and she told us of the blood condition. Reminded me to be more mindful of the elderly in the winter. Andy came home and shoveled off all the doorways of our elderly neighbors.
