"Milo"

Our family grudgingly grew today, by one kitten.
Andy and I were both at work today when Dad told me a stray kitten
had wandered nearby only to be found by my emotional-in need of a friend-not dealing well with all the changes in life-
4 yr. old daughter. :)
It definitely won't come inside....that's out of the question while we rent, but after our first reactions of "Oh NO and nuh-uh", we had to stop and just watch Emma with "Milo", whom she named. What we saw made us stop and think about what Emma is going through right now.
She set a blanket for him in the garage, and with a stack of her books, sat, cuddled and read to him from 4:00pm to 8:50pm and then only came in because we made her. We'd peek in to listen as she told Milo stories and consoled him about his seemingly bad leg, that she'd once had a broken leg too.
It's as if my little girl has found her purpose in this crazy season of our lives....Something she can pour herself into and focus on. Emma is of the personality that desperately needs structure and organization, something we're sorely lacking right now.....Well, she's making it for herself in caring for this kitten. That's something I can't take away from her right now. We agreed to let him stay in the garage for now and see what happens.
Too bad he's so ugly.
