I didn't think she would still be just two years old (almost three).....I didn't imagine she'd ponder heaven at such an early age....I didn't know she would ask to pray, tonight!
Emma and I (Nellie) read a book tonight on the fruit of the spirit. At the end, she asked me where God was pictured in the book. I told her there was no picture but that God "lives" in Heaven. That started the conversation rolling....I told her how someday mommy and daddy, g'ma, g'pa, Lis and Tim and her whole family would fly to Heaven to live with Jesus. How wonderful and beautiful Heaven was, no tears, no sadness, just happiness.
"But mom! I can't fly with you, I don't have a costume!!"
We talked about how Jesus must come and live in your heart first before you can go to Heaven, how we ask him to forgive us for all the times we disobey, called sin.
(Andy enters the room)
"Dad! I've got sin!"
We all do. I asked Emma if she'd like to pray to have Jesus come and live in her heart someday. "Let's do it now mom!"
(my heart was racing)
Andy was glowing. We kept looking at each other, just realizing what an amazing gift of parenthood we've been given, of responsibility.
Daddy led his little girl in the sinner's prayer while we all three held hands.
They prayed:
A: "Jesus"
E: "Jesus"
A: "Please come into my heart"
E: "Come into my heart please"
A:"And please forgive me of all the bad things I've done"
E: "So I can come fly to Heaven with mom and dad"
A: "In Jesus Name"
E: "AMEN!!"
God knows her precious little heart, and I will never, ever forget tonight.
