Clean Your Stair

First I must laugh at myself for choosing this stair photo. It's as far from what our staircase truly looks like as is humanly possible, but I needed a quick photo so there you go.

We implemented a new family rule in our house a few weeks back that seems to have stuck and so far, is working very well.

CLEAN YOUR STAIR!

Liv's stair is the first, Emma's is the second, mine is the third and Andy's the fourth.

During the course of any given day. I was probably making 40-50 trips up and down our stairs. Between books, laundry, toys, wrapping paper or any other item you can imagine, it kept me hopping. Then the thought occurred to me, what if each family member was in charge of one "stair". And whatever items they had brought downstairs would be placed on their stair to be taken back up by them.

As it stands now, your personal stair must be clean before we can play outside, watch a movie or any other fun activity and boy do the girls make quick work of this chore. Saves mommy's back (though my thighs were benefiting from the workout) and teaches responsibility. I hope. :)

(Note: If stairs are not cleaned off before bed, please use caution when coming down them during the night for ANY reason!)

What a great idea! The first house we had with stairs drove me nuts...until I got a basket for the top of the stairs and the bottom...then I waited until it was full before schlepping it up of down. I like your idea much better...let them do their own schlepping!

Good idea, and echoes my own recent sentiments! I am not even past the first trimester and I am already having trouble getting up and down, what will 9 mos be like? I have started to ask the kids to return things to the upstairs or downstairs but our stairs seem constantly cluttered, especially the landing halfway up. You've inspired me!
