Among the "Firsts"

With Firstborns, the "firsts" seem to to come awful quick.
Our Emma is no exception.

This Christmas, the "first" we happen to be noticing is one that took us quite by surprise.

Emma has her first real crush.

They were in a Christmas play together, both sheep. And he held her hand on stage.

Nothing more is needed apparently in the mind of a 5 year old, than a nice sheep that looks your way and holds your hand.

Our mom-daughter conversation went something like this:

"Mom, I found a boy I'd like to marry."

"You did! (my heart, laughter and worry is all choking me at once)
Wow....well, what is his name?"

"Oh, I don't know. But he's nice to look at, and he held my hand when we danced on the stage....AND when it was time to color, he sat with me instead because he could tell I was a bit sad....I'd like to marry him."

-----------------------
(the following day, obviously having not forgotten this new sheep love interest, her comments continue:

"Mom, my friend, the one I want to marry.....He's SIX! He could teach me so very many things! *sigh* Do you think he'll still be alive when I want to get married?"

"Well hun, why don't we just leave it in God's hands as to who you marry....I'm sure He has the perfect husband for you picked out already....He'll show you when you're old enough."

(thinking is taking place for a minute here)

"Nah, I'd like to marry this one."

---------------------------------
(then after the play)
I asked, "Emma, how was your friend tonight?"

"Oh He was great.....Well, he didn't do much that was good.....he poked me in the eye."

Those darn boys.
