Tonsillectomy

Today was the day. Liv's tonsillectomy. We started the morning VERY well, despite not being able to have breakfast. Her balloons were a huge hit and our best spent $2 bucks. :)
Her first complaint was how "not pretty" hospital clothes are. C'mon people, for a surgery worth a few grand, ya can't find any PINK jammies?! ;)
Getting nervous.
Silly Daddys make EVERYTHING better. Andy was able to take Livy into the O.R. and hold her hand as she fell asleep, so he "gowned up" too.
Waiting...At one point during the waiting, Liv said "Ugh, I think the doctors must all be busy today, we should just go home." Nice try babe.
The walk. The walk between Same Day Surgery and the O.R., that parents hate more than kids.
What an angel. She was a complete trooper. From start to finish, her procedure took about 20 minutes. Just enough time for Andy and I to sprint to the cafeteria to woof down some scrambled eggs and orange juice since we were starving, and then run back to the recovery room. We are so thankful everything went so well. She had a team of 6 doctors and nurses who took beautiful care of her.
Huge admiration for parents who are facing MAJOR surgeries with their kids....going to your baby girl in O.R. recovery after minor surgery to find her disoriented and calling your name is one thing, and heart-wrenching enough.....I can not imagine, nor wish to, what parents face who walk into that room and are just thankful their children are alive.
We're home now and Liv is sleeping as I write this. She has yet to actually mention her tonsils/throat. It was that mean monster of an IV that bothered her the most, once that was removed, everything improved. :)
Now we live in the land of constant fluids, jello, applesauce, pudding, mac 'n cheese and popcicles!
Big Sister Emma is smothering Liv in kindness and attention. Emma is BORN to be a nurse. She has the compassion and the brains for it. Even as we dropped her off this morning at her friend's house, she yelled back into the car "I'm prayin' for you Liv!" She used a little less tact when we got home today, looked in Liv's mouth and said
"WOW! They cut EVERYTHING outta there!"
Thank you Emma! ;)
