Close to Home

Have you ever watched a movie and decided that you know someone who could have played a ch
aracter in that movie and been perfectly fit for it?
Maybe that wouldn't have needed to even act!!!

Last night, Andy
and I watched a oldie....from the (gasp) '90's.
"Father of the Bride"

From the first scene, where "Dad", George Banks is pacing in his owned shoe factory, waiting for his secretary to intercom that his daughter's plane has landed from Rome, safely.
All we could see was MY DAD!

My Dad is ultra-safe when it comes to his kids and grandkids. We never got away with Fall jackets in winter, it had to be a winter coat, zipped and buttoned over. I might as well have asked to skydive rather than go water-skiing as a teen. Instead, I had permission to ride in the boat. ;)

You get the idea....Andy and I were in stitches making comparisons between George Banks and my Dad. The way we could see them both sizing up future son-in-laws....Having hilarious commentary on life experiences, the jokes, the facial expressions, but most important, the father-daughter relationship.

I think maybe that's why my Dad didn't like this movie when it came out in the 90s....maybe it just hit too close to home. :)

Here I am, almost a decade on the other side of getting married, and I still tear up at this silly movie. Anyone would be truly blessed to have a dad like George Banks, or in my case, my own Dad.
(Who never had a melt down and stole hot dog buns....Thought that distinction was important)
