3 weeks till SCHOOL

Andy starts school on the 24th, Emma starts in the next two weeks. Both beginning a new season of life, Emma's will last 12 years at least, let's pray Andy's is less! :)

Andy finally received his schedule for his first semester. It's very do-able. Tuesdays will be black and long in our lives this fall, but I'm so proud of him for taking the classes he did last year, he would have been facing a 24 credit semester (that's INSANE), instead he has 14 credits.

Emma is beginning kindergarten. My whole purpose and goal with Emma this year is to teach her to read, spell and write. I don't even care if she is "reading" on her own by the end of the year, what I do care is that she learns her phonograms, her grammar and spelling rules and the foundations for what will shape a tremendously large part of her life.

Spelling is crucial to me. I shouldn't, but I'm fairly quick to judge based on hand writing, grammar, and spelling. It says so much about you. No one can tell me "all guys have bad hand-writing". Most may, but my dad has the best hand writing of anyone I know, in fact, he taught Aaron and I in that respect! I'm looking forward to the challenge.

A side note:
Watertown (and the midwest for that matter) is huge on YARD SALES.

If you know me, then you're smiling right now.

That is music to my ears. There's a catch though....Yard Sales are THE weekend events. People can pick the oddest of times to begin and end their sales and everyone will abide by it because they're hard-core bargain shoppers! The prices are unbelievably low and we've been having a ball every weekend.

It's possible I was born to live in the midwest. Ask me after winter.

Haha - that's awesome about the yard sales! Unfortunately Irvine is about the most yard-sale-less place on the face of the earth (they actually have laws against them and you can only do them under your HOA's specifications, only once a year!) ugh! I've been missing my bargain hunting fix. I'm glad Andy's credits are 14 and not 24. I did 18 one semester with lab classes and almost died. 24 would be- CRAZY! Are you using a particular system for Emma's reading? I've had some recommended to me and am thinking of getting "hooked on phonics" for Marshall. I'd love to hear what tools you are using.
