Emma the Helpful

If Emma had been born in the 1600's, I'm fairly sure her title would have been Emma the Helpful, or Emma the Compassionate.

She continues to bless my socks off, and with a newborn, I just can't imagine life without her.

Last night, I put Livy in the bath while I cleaned around the house like mad, knowing the house was being shown today at 2pm...
30 minutes later...I knew I nee
ded to get upstairs and wash Liv's hair before she pruned. Much to my surprise, who should be walking DOWNSTAIRS toward me but Liv, dressed in jammies, hair washed and looking squeaky clean. She was followed down the stairs by none other than her big sister who was smiling brightly. "Mom, I washed Liv's hair and helped her get dressed, I knew you were busy."

Oh. my. gosh.

My 6 year old has the compassionate eyes and ears of a 26 year old.

Later in the evening, she st
arted cleaning up the kitchen from our cupcake making adventure, unbeckoned and of her own decision. (Which by the way, I thrive on big girl time with her like cupcake making opportunities...)

Now before you start grumbling that you may not have a little personality like this at your home....remember that these super-sensitive types are also super-likely to either be over-used or crushed easily since they derive so much of their job from pleasing others.
It's a very thin tight rope we walk with Emma. We're doing our best to encourage her servant's heart toward others, while still giving her freedom to be SIX. I don't want her to be one that grows up not wanting her own family because she was a built-in butcher, baker and babysitter at home. ;)

My mom did a great job at juggling kids of different ages at home so I'll be headed to her for tips and insight again and again in the next 12 years.
