August 17th is a special day in my family.
My mom turns 50 today.
(Her appearance is very deceiving, she looks 35. She may have her German heritage to thank for that)
Her 50 years represent:
33 years of a good marriage, (despite God’s humor is wanting men and women to co-exist in marriage)
27 years of walking with Christ,
26 years of child-rearing, (despite all 4 of us, yikes)
22 years of ministry alongside Dad, (despite people :))
21 years of homeschooling, (despite the general flow)
17 years of being a Midwest girl, (IN spite of each and every blizzard)
16 years of piano teaching, (and 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and)
6 years of being a loved Grandma… (despite “Grandma, grandma, grandma watch!”)
And 26 years of being one of my heroes.
Pretty impressive life.
Especially considering how dedicated she’s been as a wife, mother and my Dad’s right hand.
Some look at 40, 50, 60 and begin droning on about reaching that “Over the Hill” mark….I look at my Mom’s life, at the blessings that have followed her desire to serve Christ through valleys and peaks, at the vast wisdom that accompanies 50 years of age, and I anxiously look forward to it.
Bring on that hill, looks like the best is on the other side!
I love you, Mom. Happy Birthday.
